PERSONAL.
Mr R. J. Thompson (Director of the Technical School) left Ashburton last' evening to attend the Teachers' Court of Appeal, commencing at Wellington, to-day. ~ ?;! : ■ %
Mr L. Hall, euphonium soloist in the Ashburton Silver Band, leaves to-morrow to take up a. new position at Greymouth. He will join the Greymouth Band.
Mr A. L. Lambie, who has been attached to the Ashburton railway clerical staff for the last twelve months, left to-day to take oyer the position of stationmaster at Oamaru. He was met by the railway staff last evening and presented with a travelling rug.
Mr and Mrs P. Stewart, and Miss E. ] Stewart, will leave Ashburton about the end of April to_ reside in Christychurch. Mr Stewart' has been a. well- j known figure in Ashburton for the last 25 years. He came to New Zealand from Scotland in 1859, and resided at Christchurch, Halswell, and Brookside before taking up land at Seaview. He was a member of the Wakanui Road Board for five years and was a member of the School Committee for many years. His activities in Ashburton. have been mainly concerned in the Borough Council, of which he was a member for some yeargj and chairman of the Works Committee, and in the Scottish Society, and he is a keen bowler. Miss Stewart has resigned from the secretaryship of the ladies' section of the Golf Club and from the position of librarian at the Municipal, Library, Which she has held for about eight years.
