THE FARMERS' EXCURSION. /P,..- Pr»c<! Af.snoiation ') INVEROARGILL, March 28. To-day's activities o| the Canterbury farmers at .present visiting Southland included an extensive motor tour of the Eastern District and an official dinner in the early part of the day were not promising, hut there was considerable improvement during the afternoon, the second half of the trip being undertaken in bright sunshine. The visitors were greatly _ impressed with the agricultural potentialities of Southland, which, they stated, far exceeded their expectations. Over 20'.} miles of roads were covered to-day. the districts visited embracing some* of the finest ruval country in New Zealand. The red and black colours of Canterbury stand out everywhere, as all the travellers are wearing the ribbons. Everybody is happy and the farmers appear to be having the time of their lives. There are pjenty of attractions •besides \he> entertainment houses, and not a moment is being idled away. To-morrow a special trip is beinig made by the tug Southland to Stewart Is-land. It was originally intended to ; make one trip on Friday, but in view of the large number of visitors two trips are now necessary. Half the party will go to the Island to-morrow and the remainder on Friday. Those not taking part in the trip to-morrow will be the guests of the Southland Racing Club at its autumn meeting. At to-night's function great enthusiasm was displayed. Canterbury and Southland were toasted in turn, and the utmost good fellowship existed. The visitors were unanimous that the excursion was beneficial from all points of view, and urged that it should become an annual affair. Cheers brought the gathering to a- close.
