Tinwald School Committee.—The monthly meeting of> the Tinwald School Committee wad heldnon Tuesday evening, when there were present .->—Messrs Clothier (chairman),. S. Giles, F. Bonnington, J. Fergie, and J. Gudsell. The headmaster reported that the average attendance was 89. Debating Society.—The Presbyterian Literary and Debating?,Society held, another of a series of social evenings- last evening. Mr C. Chapman was elected chairman for the evening. Mr J. S. Tennant gave ai lecture on "Botany, which was very interesting. This-.-was ifollowed by a humorous reading in the Scotch dialect. I High School Board.—The. monthly meeting of the High School Board; was theld yesterday. Those present were: Messrs W. B. Denshire D. Thomas, M. Stitt, and Rev. G. B._ Inglis. The headmaster reported that the scarlatina outbreak had.:' caused a marked drop in the ' average attendance for the month. Mounted Rifles.—On Monday evening a meeting was heltl to consider the formation of a division of iJh'e Ashburton Mounted Rifles, ai- which Captain Fooks, Lieut. Harper, S*rgt.-Major Gibson, and Q.M.S. Riokman were present. After an explanat ion of the work required during the year was given, about twelve members were enrolled..
