QUALIFIED FOR TRAINING. AUCKLAND, March 26. Two Wellington teachers, Misses P. M. McMurrav and E. M. Emerson (daughter of Police Superintendent A. T. Emerson, of Wellington), returned to New Zealand by the Aorangi yes* terday after nine months’ absence, seven of which were spent in New Jersey at the famous Vineland training school for children whose minds are not developed normally. These teachers, who had charge of special classes in Wellington for children with retarded minds, have now had modern instruction and opportunity to observe the methods of treatment which should make their future services to the cause of education invaluable. Half the time was spent in teaching at the school itself and the balance in training and mental testing. At the institution’s summer school for teachers, attended by 60 teachers from all parts of America and as far away as Norway, the Wellington teachers gained a special diploma for tlieir work.
