TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From “Guardian,” March 26, 1903). Excelsior Football Clubp—Tlio annual meeting of the Excelsior Football Club was held last evening, a good number of members being present. Mr G. Thomas occupied the chair. The following officers were elected: Patron, I>. Thomas, Esq.; president, J. Mc'Lachlan, Esq.; vice-presidents, Dr. Bolger, Messrs G. Coleman, E. Thomas, J. Newman, L. de C. Malet, J. C. N. Grigg, and Id. Davis; captain, M. Buchanan; lion, secretary, J. N. Wilkie; treasurer, G. Thomas. Druids’ Social.—The Star of Ashburton, U.A.O.D. Lodge gave a members’ social in the Masonic Hall last evening, when about 40 couples) were present. The evening took the form of a social and dance. Items were given by Airs Bunnell and Sister Cobbe; Bros. D. Stock, W. Orowtlier and P. Williams. Music for the dances was supplied by Terris’s Band. Ashburton Mounted Rifles.—The annual meeting of the Ashburton Mounted Rifles was held last evening, Captain Looks being in the chair. The balance-sheet showed a satisfactory credit balance. The following Finance Committee was elected :—The , officers, Sergt.-Major T. F. Gibson and Sergt.' Christian, Trophies had been won during the yean by Sergt. Sergt. Stuart, Trooper McLennan and Trooper Friedlander. The Selw.vn Challenge Glasses had been won by the Ashburton Mounted Rifles. The following wei’e appointed a shooting committee: Sergt.-Major 1 Gibson, Sergts. Stuart, Christian, Corpls. Blunden, Lamb and Jeffs, Troopers McGregor and Soal. . , Rakaia Mothers’ Union. —At the last meeting of the Rakaia Mothers Union Miss Buller, who is about to leave for la. twelve months’ tour of the Old Country, was presented with a travel--1 ling rug by Mrs Hardy,'and a framed photograph of her Sunday School class by the children themselves.
