WARMEST DAY THIS SUMMER. Yesterday was the liotteet day experienced this summer, the- maximum temperature, 87 degrees, being two degrees more than the previous day. A cloudy sky did not temper the warmth of the sun this moaning. By noon the clouds had given place to a thin haze which made the atmosphere sultry. There was a light breeze from the south-east. The barometer this morning registered 30.6 inches, .84 inches higher than yesterday. The maximum and minimum temperatures were 87 and 63 degrees respectively, compared with 85 and 63 on Thursday. HOTTEST DAY AT CHRISTCHURCH CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. With the temperature in the shade at 89-1 degrees, and in the sun 151 degrees, and a moderate north-wester blowing, yesterday was by far the hottest day Christchurch has experienced for over a year. In the shade at 6. o’clock last night the thermometer registered 85 degrees, and, although the wind had dropped to a great extent, the heat was very oppressive. OFFICIAL FORECAST. The following forecast < was issued to-dav:— Indications are for northerly moderate winds. Expect warm-and sultry weather. Weather cloudy to overcast. Misty rain is to he expected in places shortly. There is a prospect of fair to cloudy weather. The barometer has a falling tendency.
