GERMAN MUSICIANS.
A VISIT TO ENGLAND. Ninety musicians, with their conductor, arrived in London one evening a few weeks ago. They were the Berlin Philharmonic Society Orchestra, with their conductor, Herr Furtwangler, paying their first visit to England-. Herr Furtwangler is the only member of the orchestra who has visited England before. He is one of the world's greatest conductors, having charge of orchestras-in Berlin, Leipzig Vienna and New York. Three special charabancs were necessary to convey the musicians to their hotels. The conductor, as he stepped from the train, was quite unlike the conventional idea of the conductor, except for the broad black hat which he wore. He stands 6ft. 2in. in height, with the figure of a Guardsman, curly golden hair, cut short behind, and alert blue eyes. "I am very interested to be back in England again," he told an interviewer. "Your English audiences are most sympathetic to play to. We think highly of English music m Germany, and EI era r is your most popular composer. His* works are often played." ':;■•■"
