THE WOOL MARKET
THIRD NAPIER SALE
KEEN DEMAND, FIRM PRICES,
(Per Pres 3 Association.) NAPIER, January 16
A cheerful air pervaded the opening of the third Napier wool sale to-night, and almost from the initial bid it was apparent that the cheerfulness was to be justified. Almost all round there was an improvement on the recently held Wellington sale, estimated at -Id, and a decided advance oil the last local sale. It was unmistakably apparent that buyers were anxious to secure wool, and, if not prepared to- go to extremes to purchase it, they -were at least willing to pay more than previously. The catalogue consisted of 28,000 hales, and of the first 12,000 sold tonight only a negligent number was passed. This, of course, was occasioned by the quality of the particular wool offered, which was high. The lots were of such variety as to suit all operators on the market, consequently Bradford and the Continent were operating freely, w&ile the American concerns represented and local buyers were nothing loth to keep pace.
PRICES AT SYDNEY. SYDNEY. January 16. At the wool sales there w r as keen competition for all descriptions of fleece and skirtings at prices fully equal to the best of last week’s. Comebacks and crossbreds sold at full late rates. Greasy merino sold to 35^d.
