CHILD DROWNED IN A CASK. CUSBORNE, January 14. A verdict of death by drowning was given at the inquest on Norman Douglas Binder, an infant, who fell into a cask of water. Evidence showed that the child was of robust health, and had only been missed a few minutes. He had fallen head-first into a cask and died before medical help arrived.
INFANT INJURED IN MOTOR-CAR.
DUNEDIN, January 15. As a result of a. motor-car overturning at Allanton at mid-day to-day, the five-months-old child of Mr and Mrs D Wheeler, of Mormona, was admitted to the hospital suffering from a fracture of the right leg. The car, which was an old model Ford, was carrying six or sexen passengers from Momona, and when Hearing Allanton, the steering gear failed to work, and the car capsized over a small bank. Most oi the occupants suffered bruises, scratches and cuts, but the child, Douglas Charles Wheeler, was the only one requiring hospital treatment. His injuries are confined to a broken leg, and his condition is not serious.
A NURSE FOUND DEAD. WANGANUI, January 15, Miss Clara Alice Fox, about 40 years of age, was found dead on Saturday night in her house. The house was shut up for Several days, and the neighbours thought Miss Cox was on her"holidays. The gas was found turned on, and letters found under the door dated' January 5, indicated that she had been dead for a week. The deceased, who was a trained nurse waa believed to have relations in ,\\eilington, but none is known here. MOTORIST INJURED. AUCKLAND, January 15. A motor-car skidded on the loose "•ravel at Papatoctoe, crashing into a telegraph pole. Mr Ralph Fairey, aged 21, of Newmarket, was gravely injured about the head. He is in the hospital in a serious condition. His- companion escaped with minor injuries.
INFANT'S BODY IN HARBOUR. WELLINGTON, January 15 The body of a new-born child the sex of which has not yet been determined was discovered in the harbour this morning. It is believed to be a case of murder. The police are supposed to have a cine. FATAL COLLISION. HAMILTON, January 14. An inquest was opened this morning concerning the death of Leslie Spencer, who was killed at the Five Cross roads, Claudelands, on December 19. in a collision between his motor evele and a, car.
