TWENTY-FIVE YEARS AGO. (From “Guardian,” January 13, 1903).The Late Parliamentary Election. — The total number of electors in the County who voted in the recent election was 4-737, the men totalling 2775 and- women 1,962- There is a total of 5,876 on the roll. Lauvistou School Committee. —A special meeting of the Lauriston School Committee was held yesterday, there being present: Messrs Buchanan (chairman), J. H. Dent, G. Church, S. Cassey, H. Drummond, and J. Moore. The chairman said he wished the children’s annual picnic to be organised on> a larger scale than - usual this year, and it was decided to arrange an excursion to Sumner, Christchurch. Agricultural and Pastoral Association.—The Ashburton Agricultural and Pastoral Association held a special meeting last evening to consider making some important changes in the rules. There were present: Messrs T. Stone (President), E. Taylor, J. O’Shea, James Small, JamesM Brown, T. Bullock, John Lambie, L. Fechney, J. Tucker, H.. Sinclair, J. W. Timmins, Tj. d© C. Malet, R. Tarbotton, A. F. Roberts, G. Mcßae, J. S. Bland, T. E. Upton, G. E. Sandrey, H. O. Shrimpton, T. F; Gibson, 0. Reid, D. Fechney, Junr., and H. Willis. It was decided that the financial year of the association should end before February 28, and that the' annual meeting should be held not later than April. It was proposed that members of twentyfive years’ standing should be declared life members. The' 1 chief objection to this was that authentic records did not go back more than seventeen years, and the measure was defeated on the casting vote of the chairman.
