WELCOME SOCIAL.
SALVATION ARMY OFFICERS. A lieartv welcome was extended to Ensign T. 'Moore and Mrs Moore, who have arrived from Sydenham to take charge of the Ashburton Salvation Army Corps, at a social function held in the Army Hall last evening. There was a large attendance, including between 20 and 30 Girl Guards. The meeting opened with a hymn, followed by a prayer by Corps Sergt.-Major F. Frew. „ „ ~ In a brief address of welcome to the new officers. Bandmaster G. Argyle said that if everyone put his shoulder to the wheel, many days of blessing- would ensue for the Corps. On behalf of the sisters of the Corps, Miss I. Kemp welcomed the new leaders, and a further welcome was expressed by Corps Secretary LLayW The Rev. G. Verco (Church of Christ) extended a welcome on behalf of the Ashburton churches. Suitable replies were made by, Ensign and Mrs Moore, who were- greeted with applause. Selections were played by the hand, after which games were indulged in. Supper was handed round.
