VIEW OF ASHBURTON FARMERS. “They have not had a meeting since I was appointed the Executive’s delegate,” said Mr H. Wills at the meeting of the Mid-Canterbury Executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union this afternoon, when a question of referring a matter to the Ashburton Chamber of Commerce cropped up. “That was last August, wasn’t it?” asked Mr J. Brown. “Yes,” said Mr Wills. Mr G. W. Leadley: “Are they functioning, or are they dead?” ■ Mr Wills: “I think they are.” Another member stated that he'had been informed that the President (Mr E. 0. Rawnsley) had been unable to get members of the Chamber together, so meetings could not be held. Mr Leadley said he thought at first that the matter should be referred to the Christchurch Chamber, but he latqr thought it would he something of a slight to the Ashburton Chamber if they adopted this course. Mr fill said they should refer the question tc the Ashburton Chamber, as it “would give them something to do.” The President (Mr H. C. B. With ell): It will be an excuse for meeting 1
