Mr Herring reports that at noon on Friday, ice consisting of hail was three inches deep in the shade. The Projected Coalfields; Railway.— Mr James* Gibson, Manager of the Mt. Somers Coal Company, interviewed the Hon. W. Halt Jones, Minister of Railways, who passed north last evening, as to the prospects of the coalfield being connected*' with Mt. 'Sofdters by rail. The Minister promised to make a visit to the coalfield at an: early date to look intc* the matter.
