CRAZE FOR SLIMNESS.

COMPLAINT BY CONFECTIONERS. FALLING OFF IN BUSINESS. (Per Press Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 8.55 a.m.) LONDON, January 11. Confectioners are the latest victims of women's craze for slimness, says the annual report of the Manchester Chamber of Commerce. Imports of refined sugar and candy dropped by six million hundredweight within a year, representing a fall of 35 per cent. Experts say that whereas man used to give a box of chocolates to a girl he now gives a box of cigarettes. Doctors, however, deprecate cutting sugar from the dietary of women, and state that it would be wiser to secure slimness by cutting out pastry and potatoes.
