PRODUCE IN LONDON. HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, January 9. The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, dated January 7, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:—• Tallow. The spot market is firmer, with an active demand at auction. Present quotations are:—Mutton, fine 41s 6d per cwt. fair to good 38s 6d to 40s 6d, dark to tluii 36s to 375; beef, sweet and (or) "mixed 39s to 425, fait to good 37s 3d to 395, dark to dull 35s 6d to ?36s 6d; mixed, fair to go<sd 37s to 38s 9d, dark to duli, 35s 6d to 365; gut, etc., 34s to 36s 6d. Hemp. The market is of a holiday character. The Manila market is quiet, with a tendency easier. “J” grade, JanuaryMarch shipments, sold at £4l. The Sisal market is quiet. Small business has been done in No. 1 Januaryv-March shipments at £37. Noi. 2is offered more freely, the closing value being £35 10s. For New Zealand there is small enquiry for spot and afloat. Forward shipments are neglected. The present values _ of Januarv-March shipments are:—Highpoints £34 10s, fair £32 10s, and common £32 ;■ tow, second grade £2l 10s, and third grade £l9. Oats. The market continues quiet, . with little interest shown in imported. English is firm. Supplies of good quality are small, and best white are making 33s 6d. \New Zealand “A” grade January shipments are quoted 33s 6d (nominal in absence of offers). Plate oats for January shipment are offered at 24s 9d. and Chilian, new crop for March-April shipment, have been sold at 25s 3d. \ \ Peas. The market is quiet. There is only a small demand for new crop maples, buyers having sufficient for the present. New Zealand February-March shipments have sold at 735, and April-May shipments are offered at 72s 6d. English of good quality is somewhat scarce, the best making 64s to 665. Blues are neglected. “A” grade Tasmanian February-March shipments are offered at £lB 5s per torn c.i.f., without attracting attention. Beans. The market is steady, and there is good, enquiry- for English best dried winters selling at 47s to 495, and old crop making 555. 6d. Chinese horse, afloat, is selling at £lO 12s 6d. Cocksfoot. The market for Danish is very quiet. Stocks a e considered small, and sellers are expecting higher prices. The nominal value for January shipment is £5 to £5 5s c.i.f. Wool. The Bradford market is firmer, and most qualities are again in sellers’ favour. Present quotations are: Tops, 64’s (merino), warp 4s 4a per lb, average 4s 3d 58’s: super halfbred 3s 3d, 50’s halrbred 2s sd: 40’s prepared Is load.

Lambs —Only small quantities of new season’s lamb have arrived and are meeting with a good demand. Mutton —The market is very firm and sales are good. SYDNEY WOOL SALES. SYDNEY, January 9. At the wool sales, under very strong competition, the market ruled about 5 per cent, over the opening rates of the previous week. All descriptions -hared in demand and very full satisfactory clearances were made. Creasy merino sold to 34Jd.
