SEEKING A RECORD.

WEST AUSTRALIAN WHEAT. The Minister of Lands of Western Australia (Mr M. F. Troy) has announced that it is intended to apxjeal to farmers throughout the State to celebrate the centenary year, 1929, by a special record harvest of wheat, wool, butter, potatoes, and fruit. The suggestion arose from the Director of Agriculture (Mr G. L. Sutton) and one of the objectives is tlie production of a wheat harvest exceeding the present record held by any one State in the Commonwealth, namely. New South Wales, which State in 1915-16 produced 66.000,000 bushels. It is estimated that if the area under crop is increased each year to the same extent as in recent years, there will he 4,000,000 acres under wheat for grain in 1929. With a 124 bushel average this would produce a 50,000,000 bushel crop, and with a 15 bushel average a crop of 60,000,000 bushels would result. The Department of Agriculture intends conducting a campaign for increased effj l ciency in farming methods, and bv this means it is hoped to obtain the objective of the director. The Minister says he v;i!l be well satisfied if the centenary crop reaches 50,000,000 bushels.
