ASHBURTON COMPETITIONS. GAMES ON SATURDAY. After a postponement for three weeks, the Ashburton Cricket Association’s competitions were continued on Saturday, with the first set of matches in a new series. The weather conditions were ideal. SENIOR GRADE. ASHBURTON A v. 'MAYFIELD. Playing on the Ashburton Oval Ashburton A defeated Mayfield by an innings and 115 runs. In their first innings Ashburton declared with 219 iruns for five wickets (McSlierry 48, • Harper 54, Brady 59, Johnstone 24, .Keeley 24) being the leading batsmen. HIGH SCHOOL v. RAKAIA. High School met Rakaia, at Rakaia, in the Junior A Grade, making 99 in the first innings (McSlierry 25, Baigent 14, Cooper 19, Kerr 16, Scrimgeour 17). Rakaia replied with 32, Hawkesworth (12) being the only man to make double figures. In their second innings, High School made 58 for the loss of seven wickets (McLauehjan 15, Cooper 15, Kerr 17). ("Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, January 7. Although Canterbury is leading Auckland on the first innings the Plunket Shield game may turn either way. This morning Auckland carried their, overnight score to 198, leaving the visitors 46 in the lead. However, due ! to fine bowling by the colt, G. L.
