FORGED DOCUMENTS

NEARLY CAUSES A WAR. MEXICO AND UNITED STATES. HALF-BREED ACCUSED. (Per Press Association—Copyright.) (“Sun.”) (Received This Day, 8.30 a.m.) WASHINGTON, January 8. Miguel Avila, a Mexican half breed, who furnished William Hearst- with spurious documents designed to show that President C’alles was waging a Bolshevik war against the United States, was charged with forging these documents himself. When the Senate investigating committee completed its inquiry the committee exonerated, as falsely charged, everyone named in the Hearst documents, and will present a finding apportioning the blame as amongst Hearst, his detective, and the editors who handled the story that in a few days brought the United States and Mexico unpleasantly near war. The crowning evidence that forgery had been committed cgjne when authentic State papers, written and signed by President Calles and other Mexicans credited with having written the Hearst documents, were produced before the committee.
