CALEDONIAN SPORTS

TJ2E METHVEN SOOIETY.

LARGE GATHERING ATTENDS. RUNNING, CYCLING, DANCING. The Methven Caledonian sports were held to-day at the Mount Harding racecourse, in splendid weather. Athletes and dancers representative of the whole of Canterbury were present. There was a large attendance, particularly in the afternoon. The visitors, many ot whom came from Ashburton, included Messrs D. Jones, M.P. for Ellesmere, and P. C. Lucas (secretary of the North Canterbury Amateur Athletic and Cycling Union). The entries for all events were good, though heavy rain in Christchurch prevented the attendance of many athletes from that centre.
