UNEMPLOYED CHINESE

PARIS CHIN-CHIN BABEL. Forty Chinamen, thrown out of work in France's new industrial crisis, went to see the Chinese Legation in the Rue Babylon recently; but as the Minister was asleep they were asked to come later. After shouting in their own language thior opinion of the Minister, they entered the building by force, shouting and gesticulating. Police officers, called in by the Minister, -arrived on a scene suggestive of the Tower of Babel.

No policeman knew Chinese, and the Chinamen knew nothing else. There was some pushing and shouting and then the officers took 19 of the demonstrators to the police station. There again the language difficulty cropped up, and there was no interpreter. So it was decided to retain only ono Chinaman, Mr Kia Chin, who lives at Meudon.
