TWO OFFENDERS FINED. "A NUISANCE GENERALLY." DRINKING METHYLATED SPIRITS Complaints having been received regarding the actions and language of two men in East Str«et yesterday, the Police arrested the individuals, and this morning thev were brought before Messrs W. H\ Rundle, J.P., and E. F. Nicoll, J.P., in the Police Court. John McGill was charged with having been found drunk in East Street and with having used obscene language, and George Humphreys was similarly charged. Sergeant T. I. McGregor, who eonducted the case for the Police, stated that accused had been hanging about the town lately, drinking methylated spirits and generally making nuisances of themselves as they rid themselves of the cheques they had made jvhile at work in the back country. The language had been used in the presence of a lady. A fine § of £5, in default 14 days' imprisonment was imposed on Humphreys on the language charge, and McGill was fined £3, in default seven days' im- . prisonment, oji the same charge. Both were convicted and discharged on the drunkenness charges. It was stated that Humphreys had a list of previous convictions. Accused were not allowed time in which to find the amount of their fines. McGill had sixpence on him When arrested.
