Monster Eel.—The following are the dimensions of an eel caught by Mr Matthew Smith in the Domain this morning:—Length, 4ft. 3ins . girth, 18ins.; weight, 1/Jlbs. It was a • wamp eel, and was caught in the pipe between the baths and the middle lake. Prime Canterbury.—Canterbury mutton is now sold in London as follow: — Legs and loins, lOd per lb; forequarters 9d per lb, necks 7d per lb. Longbeach Road Board.—The Longbeach Road Board met on Saturday. Present: Messrs J. O. N. Grigg (chairman), Lill, Bishop, Body, and Stoddart The chairman stated the bank balance to be £656 lis lid. Debating Class at Allenton. —A meeting was held in the Allenton School last evening, for the purpose of forming a debating club. It was decided to call tho club the "Allenton Debating Class." The following committee was elected: Misses Hewson, Dent, J. Harris, Messrs Hewson, C Chapman, J. W. Malcolmson, and F. Rose. Mr Hewson was elected president, Mr C. Chapman vicenpresidentt, and Mr J. Smith secretary and treasurer.
