THE PRESBYTERY.

REV. S. PRENTER RESIGNS. SPRINGBURN CONGREGATION. The Ashburton Presbytery met yesterday afternoon, the Rev. S. Prenter (Moderator) presiding over a good attendance. The Revs. G. Hercus and W. Marshall, with Mr F. Bailey and their elders, were appointed a Temperance Committee of the Presbytery. Mr Bailey was appointed to confer with congregations as to the safe custody of records and relics, and report to a future meeting of the Presbytery. The Rev. A. D. Kirkland reported that the erection of the iCarew Church was progressing satisfactorily. The Rev. S. Prenter handed in his resignation as minister of the Hinds charge. It was decided to accept the resignation, and dissolve the pastoral See as from August 31 next. The Rev. G. Hercus introduced a deputation from the Springburn congregation, consisting of Messrs Macfarlane, Shearer, Russell, and fordAfter the deputation was heard it ■was decided to reduce the status of the Springburn congregation to that of a Home Mission Station, as from June 30. The Revs. G. Hercus and A. D. Kirkland were appointed to confer with the Springburn congregation in reference to a possible re-arrangement of bounldari6c.
