The attempt to settle the dispute between the Newcastle coal trimmers and the Port Arthur Stevedoring Company terminated in'a deadlock. Twentv-one collieries in the Northern fields have ceased working, ami 10.000 minors are idle Should the strike continue, the eievs of a number of vessels will be paid on.
