Poultry Society.—The annual meeting of the Ashburton Poultry, and Canary Society was held last evening, Mr H. G. Berrymaii presiding over a large attendance. The balancesheet, showing a small credit balance, was adopted. The election ot officers resulted:—Patrons, Messrs E. G. Wright and George Leadley; president, Mr John Studholme, jun.; vicepresidents, a large number was elected; committee, Messrs J. Bundy, S. Mclntyre, P- Stephens, C. J. Turner, H< Rose, E. J. Cox, W. J. Silcock, C. Alcorn, J; V: de Beer, B. Baker, T. Breeze, R. T. Clarke, Christian and Berryman, with power to add: secretary and treasurer, Mr J. B. Christian; hon. auditor, Mr A. J. Muller; hon. veterinary surgeon, Mr Bankes. The Price of Wheat. —A Pareora faruer disposed of his wheat in Timaru yesterday at 4s lid per bushel. Ashburton Temperance Brass Band. The first business meeting of the newlyformed Ashburton Temperance Brass Band was held on Saturday evening, when the rules were read over, and approved. It was explained that the object of the band, was to assist in any religious, charitable or temperance work in such manner as may be from time to time deemed expedient. Mr Hosken presided, and the following officers were elected:—President, his Worship the Mayor (Mr W. H. Collins); vice-presidents, Messrs E. G. Wright, F. Ferriman, W. Brook, J. Orr, R. Alcorn and H. M. Jones; bandmaster, Mr G. Hosken; secretory, Mr B. J. Ager; treasurer, Mr W. Hosken; deputy-bandmaster, Mr E. Tucker; orderly, Mr F. T. Ager; sergeant, Mr W. Tucker; custodian, Mr A. Hosken; auditor, Mr W. Rundle. Votes of thanks were accorded Messrs W. H. Collins, J. Tucker and J. R. Steel for gifts of materials for the band. Rangitata Road Board.—Messrs James Dellow and W. P. Kelloch have been nominated members for the Rangitata Road Board. They have been duly elected. Railway Extension to May field. —At the close of the Mayfield sale yesterday a meeting was held to further consider the matter of railway extension to Mayfield. Mr Thomas Harrison, who presided, said that it appeared to him that if they were going to have the railway all the information necessary should be obtained. Mr J. McLachlan, M.H.R. for the district, had written to him stating that the resolution advocating the extension of the railway to Mayfield had been forwarded to the Minister of Public Works. The letter further stated that the matter could not possibly be put in hand at once. After a short discussion it was decided to postpone further discussion for a month.
