METHVEN. s The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Methven Lodge, M.U., 1.0.0. F., 7620, was held last evening when I.P.N.G. Bro. E. A. Mangin presided over a large attendance. Two candidates were initiated, being conducted by Sister D. Ireland and P.G. Bro. E. S. Vaughan. On behalf of the sub-committee, Bro. F. A, Anderson reported that it had decided to purchase new regalia. After the lodge closed a social hour was spent, the Brothers entertaining the Sisters. Later a dainty supper was enjoyed. Sister D. Beaton, on behalf of the Sisters, thanked the Brothers for their hospitality. The Methven railway yards are ■at present a scene of bustle and activity. Haulers and motor-lorries are working lorijep hours carting grain, and record loads are going away. Even larger quantities would be carted but for a difficulty in obtaining sufficient trucks. The Department's painters are busy giving the railway buildings and employees' residences a coat of paint and attending to general repair work. Half a dozen railway huts give the station yard quite the appearance of a new township. A short time ago there appeared to be a surplus of residential buildings on Methven.'' This, however, was only for a very short period and at present there are no houses unoccupied. The building trade is fairly quiet and with the exception of a structure facing the railway yard no new work is being undertaken.. This building is of concrete and will consist of four shops and a large billiards saloon and other offices. Its completion will give a much improved appearance to. tnis part of the township. Mrs R. Grubb has been elected honary secretary to the Methvenj branch of the Plunket Society.
