A forger, Adolph Moritz, many times obtained ■ release from gaol a’s the result of swallowing spoons, in preference to hunger-striking. The authorities thought to thwart him by providing giant' spoons with specially long handles. Moritz again became ill and four spoons were missing. An X-ray examination showed that he had swallowed the handles. The authorities performed an operation, after which Moritz was charged with stealing prison property.
