SCOUTS IN CAMP.

THE ST. STEPHEN’S TROOP,

HOSPITALITY TO VISITORS. Excellent weather has , prevailed at Peel Forest lately, ' and the St. Stephen’s (Ashburton) Troop of Boy Scouts, who left here last Monday to go into camp there, have spent a most enjoyable and, at the same time A a most profitable holiday. The troop, which is under the able leadership of Scoutmasters W. Childs and L. Arnst, trekked to the camping site, upholding scouting traditions by completing the journey in two and a half days, m spite of intense heat. No mishaps occurred to mar the march, and the lads at once settled down, entering into the varied duties of their out-of-doors life in high spirits. Each day brings a full programme, which includes Bible studies, community singing, organised games, and scouting exercises. This evening the troop will give an entertainment in the township, and to-morrow evening they will hold a camp-fire concert. Despite the inclemency of the weather yesterday, a number of Ashburton residents motored to reel Forest and spent the day at the camp, which was experiencing .the first wOt day since the scouts arrived. Conditions were anything but pleasant tor the visitors, but, with true Scout hospitality, the lads placed their fires and cooking utensils at tlie disposal of the motorists. In the morning the troop held a church parade in the township. Camp will be struck on morning, and the Scouts are due to leave on the homeward trek at y.ou o’clock. It is expected they will take two and a half days over the journey, although the scoutmasters believe that they may arrive in Ashburton on Thursday evening.
