THE PROSPECTS OF AVIATION. LONG NON-STOP STAGES. (Per Press Association.—Copyright). (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) LONDON, December 25. Lord Thomson (ex -Secretary of State for Air), in a speech, declared that New Zealand would soon be brought within 10 days of London by machines flying 1500 miles non-stop stretches. The future of British aviation rested in long-distance flights. He cited the case of the non-stop flight of 3400 miles. Ten stops would enable the traveller to reach New Zealand without touching a non-British station.
AIR LINE TO INDIA. BOTH CRAFT AT CAIRO. (Received This Day, 10.45 a.m.) CAIRO, December 25. Captain Hinchcliffe, who is piloting one of the Imperial air liners to Karachi, arrived ahead of Sir Sefton Brancker owing to the latter breaking a wheel at Wellum. Captain Hinchcliffe’s flying time from London is 2965 miles in 1572 minutes. Sir Sefton Brancker took 1715 minutes. Both flew over Vesuvius. They will resume their flight on December 27.
