RUGBY IN NEW SOUTH WALES
NEW ZEALAND INFLUENCE. THE FINANCIAL ASPECT. (Per Press'Association—Copyright.) (Received This Day, 9.25 a.m.) SYDNEY, This Day. "Smith's Weekly" comments regarding the N.S.W. Rugby Union's annual meeting, that the New Zealand delegation dominated the proceedings. It states: ' 'No feature of Rugby politics since the war stands out so much as the Union's subservience to New Zea<land. It has almost invariably'happened in financial transactions involved in the interchange of touring teams that New South Wales has held the losing end of the stick. This is in despite of the fact that such teams have usually been chiefly in the interests of the Dominion."
The newspaper points out that prior to the war, New South Wales controlled overseas visits, but since then: New Zealand has taken the lead. It quotes figures to show that New South Wale» tours of New Zealand have almost always been profitable, whereas under the present financial arrangements New Zealand visits to New South Wales have been otherwise for the home sides. The "Weekly'' adds: "So probably it will go on. New Zealand will encourage the game in Sydney by" an interchange of tours, but from the geographical nature of the situation, she cannot help profiting at New South Wales' expense. No wonder the Dominion committeemen a<re such staunch admirers of New South Wales, as they proved themselves at the last meeting."
