METHVEN.
The first picnic of the Methven. Boy Scouts Troop was held at Winchmore, whither the hoys were conveyed by motor lorries. ' A camping site was found by the Ashburton River. The any was ideal as far as the weather was concealed. On arriving at the destination a camp fire was soon started to boil the hilly, and while waiting, the yatrious Patrols took part in a tug-cf-v.'ar. The ladies, of the committee also took a hand, the result being a win for the Eagle Patrol. Swimming, games,
and competitions,filled in a very enjoyabel day. Just before tea, Mr Evans, of • Winchmore, visited the camp and distributed apples to the Scouts. Gifts of fruit and confectionery were made by ]\lrs Allred and Mr Buckett, and other gifts were given by members of the Citizens' Committee. Tired but happy the troop arrived back in Methven at 6 p.m., and were finally dismissed at All 'Saints' Parish Hall by the Scoutmaster (the Rev. F. A. Tooley). Thanks are due to the ladies who catered for and arranged the refreshments and worked so willingly throughout .the day.
SEAFSELD, The monthly euchre tournament conducted hfr the Seafield Miniature Rifle Club was held in the school on Friday evening. Mr J. Gregory controlled the games. The ladies' prize was won by Mrs R. Baynes with 135 points, Miss A. Watson being second with 124 points. Messrs A. P. Bruce # and .C. Johnson tied for the men's prize with 124 points, and on the cut of the cards Mr Bruce won. ! The annual meeting of the Seafield Miniature Rifle Club was held in the club rooms on Saturday evening, Mr J. Bruce presiding over a large attendance. The report of the secretary (Mr J. Gregory) showed the club had been in existence for four years, and the keenness shown by members had resulted in a successful year. The membership was 36. The club had 1 competed in two friendly matches, three postal matches, and two County champion ships. At the beginning of the season 20,000 rounds of ammunition had been purchased, and there were 10,000 rounds in hand. Thanks were due to the donors of trophies, those who lent their cars for conveying teams, and the ladies who provided refreshments on various occasions. The chairman expressed gratification at the club's sound financial position, and commented on the way the members of the committee had carried out their duties. The president (Mr Gregory) also thanked the committee'. He was sure the club would continue to progress. The captain (Mr R. Baynes) thanked both Mr Bruce and Mr Gregory for their encouraging remarks. The following officers were elected: — Patron, the Hon. W. Nosworthy- president, Mr A. Gregory; vice-presidents, Messrs J. Bruce, F. Johnson, James Lambie. A. Bennison, G. Kennard, R. Grice. J. W. Watson, and J. Mitchell; committee, Messrs P». Baynes, L. Scott; J. Shelley, J. Gregory, J. Lambie, A. Watson, and W. Parkin. At a meeting of the committee Mr R. Baynes was re-elected captain. Mr L. Scott vice-captain, Mr J. Gregory secretary, and .Mr W. Parkin treasurer. Messrs J. Bruce, A. Gregory, R. Shelley, and R. Baynes were elected handicappers, and Messrs R. Baynes and S. Scott target checkers and sight-testers. It was decided to open the season on Saturday, April 10.
