COUNTY CENTRES

(From Our Own Correspondents.) METHVEN. The monthly meeting of the committee of the Methven District High School was held on Monday evening, Mr Stanley Smith presiding. The report of the headmaster stated that the schc:.l had resumed on February 1. The attendance at the opening was about the same as the previous, year in the primary department, while the secondary department had an increased number on the roll, the attendance being 40.' Satisfactory arrangements had been made for cookery classes for Standards V. and VI., as well as for girls for the secondary school. Arrangements had also been made for swimming instruction for the boys. It v\ as hoped to have dressmaking classes for the girls started shortly. The committee discussed ways and meansi of taking the children to the Exhibition, and it .was decided to endeavour to arrange for the pupils of Standards IV., V., and VI. to go, about the middle of March.

LAKE COLERIDGE. Prior to their departure for New Brighton', Mr and Mrs F. Cambridge, who have been in charge of the diningrooms for several yeao-s, were entertained in the schoolroom by the residents. A pleasant evening was spent in dancing and music. Mr Hart, powerhouse superintendent, om behalf of the residents, presented Mrs Cambridge with a silver teapot, Mr Cambridge with a pipe and Miss Cambridge with a handbag. Mr Cambridge suitably reponded. Later, the Billiard Club enlartained Mr Cambridgo at a smoke concert.
