In ths House of Commons, following up the announcement that the Government proposed to grant £200,000 toward a sports ground for members of the Civil Service, several members of the House protested that this wae an unnecessary expense when national economv was important. , Mr Baldwin spiritedly defended the grant, pointing out that every large employer had provided similar facilities for the recreation of employees. The Stato thus far had provided no such consideration for its 300,000 employees.
