PAGE MEMORIAL FUND.
SUM OF £630 IN HAND. MEETING OF THE EXECUTIVE. The Executive Committee of the .* Page Memorial Fund met yesterday ' afternoon, the chairman (Mr H. F. Nicoll) presiding over a fair attend- - ance. The chairman reported that he had * interviewed the secretary of the United Swimming Club (Christchurch), who was arranging a carnival to be - held at "the end of the month in aid '• of the fund. At the trotting meeting ■ at Christchurch, on Saturday he had ' collected £lOl, not meeting with one - refusal. This spoke volumes for the - sportsmanship of those approached. The treasurer reported that the sum of £630 had been collected to date.
Mr McElrea (president of the Box- - ing Association) said it was too early in the season to hold a tournament with any assurance of success. There - were few boxers in training in Ashburton at present. Wellington and Auckland were the only places where - tournaments showed any profit. However, nothing final had yet been decided. (
•It was decided to hold the n«xfr meeting of the committee on Thursday, March 4.
