NARROW ESCAPE FROM DEATH. WASHED OFF AND ON DECK. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, This Day. When the steamer Rimu was outward bound from Onehunga to Kawhai and Raglan on Thursday, Mr 'VN llham Downey, the chief cook, aged 00, nact a startling experience. The Rimu was. crossing the Manukau bar when a sea swept the deck and swept Mr Downey over the side. Another huge sea following landed him on the deck again with three ribs broken, and his right leg severely injured. He is expected to be laid up about six weeks.
