The Rev. George Miller, of North East Valley (Dunedin), is at present in Ashburton.
The Salvation Army announces the appointment of Lieut.-Colonel Simpson, secretary for South Australian terri-. tory, as men's social secretary for NewZealand, the position held till recently by Colonel Bray, who has retired froni active service and returned to Aus>tralia.
It is announced that the following: have been appointed Inspectors of Secondary Schools:—Mr E. Caradus,. B.Sc, first assistant, Nelson College, for the past four years, and previously science "master at Auckland Grammar •School. Mr W. T. Foster, M.A., 8,, Litt., French master at Auckland Grammar School for the past five vears, and formerly headmaster of Wellesley College, Wellington.
A London cablegram announces the death of two pioneers of the road. One is Mr E. F. Fardon, of Stonefeigh, near Coventry, who claimed that he made the first all-steel bicycle with, rubber tyres before 1868. The other is Monsieur Belmont, sajd to be the inventor of the internal combustion engine, and the first man to drive a motor-car on the highways.
