THE CONTROLLING BODIES. FRICTION BETWEEN UNIONS. (Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, This Day. The annual conference of the New Zealand Athletic and Cycling Union was commenced this morning. The report stated that the Council was disappointed at the attitude of the Northern Union. The Nfew Zealand Union took the trouble to spend a good deal of money to hold out a disqualilied competitor. When the New Zealand Union asked the Northern Union to protect the Northland Centre against the defaulter it received no reply. In its annual report, the Northern Union stated that the New Zealand Union had affiliated some of the fonnor’si clubs, but the only clubs so affiliated were those running unregistered meetings. The report recommended the conference to withdraw the New Zealand Union's arrangement with the Northern Union and give authority to form a centre. The president (Mr Hansen) said that if the report were adopted it would be cutting the painter with the northern body. Mr Collingwood sakl the clause was only a recommendation to the conference. The report was adopted.
