The Hon. W. Nosworthv (Minister of Finance and Agriculture) has returned to Wellington.
A Sjydney cablegram announces the death of Lady Fairfax, widow of the late Sir Janies Fairfax, principal proprietor of the “Sydney Morning Herald.” She was 91 years of age.
Mr W. B. Cadzow, manager of His Majesty’s Theatre, returned _ this morning from a month’s holiday in the North Island. Mr G. W. Dennis, who has been acting for Mr Cadzow, left by the same train for Invercargill.
Messrs H. W. Carpendale, D. Watts, and A. Watson have been nominated for the vacancy on the Tinwald Town Board caused by the death of Mr W. H. Bell. A poll of ratepayers will, be taken next Friday to decide who will take the vacant seat on the Board.
The Hon. G. J. Anderson (Minister of Marine and Mines), the Hon. C. E. Statham (Speaker of the House of Representatives), and Mr Adam Hamilton, M.P. for Wallace and a, member of the Meat Board, were on the first express from Christchurch to Invercargill to-day.
Mr W. H. Osborne, conductor of the Band of the First (Canterbury) Moused Rifles, went to Timaru to-day. Hewill visit the southern town eacii 1 week-end to coach the Second South Canterbury Battalion Band for theDunedin contest.
