KILLED IN A STAMPEDE.
CROWD AT EGYPTIAN FAIR. MAKING WAY~FOR MINISTER. \ (Per Press Association —Copyright.) ; (Received This Day, 10.30 a.m.) CAIRO, October 23. Fifty-four people were killed and 43 ■■ injured at the annual fair at Tamtah, attended bv nearly 1,000,000 people, while the police were endeavouring to clear a way for one of the Ministers Those killed were trampled to death in the mad stampede of the huge crowd. , ~. The disaster occurred while the Minister of Pious Foundations was visiting the annual religious fair. Mounted police were endeavouring to clear a passage through the crowded streets when a number of peasant visitors became panic-stricken and stampeded. Those trampled to death included 25 boys and eight girls, eleven men and eight women. Seven were seriously hurt, and scores are suffering from slight injuries.
