THE STOCK MARKETS. ADDINGTON. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, October 21. ; Entries were smaller at to-day s Addington market. There was a good free sale in all sections, with a tendency to firmer values in the sheep l Sheep.—The entry was a small •pne, ewes and lambs forming the bulk of the offering. These were up slightly on last week’s rates, and hoggets were also firmer. Rest ewes and lambs made to 24s 6d all counted, shorn twotooth wethers to 35s 6d, and ewe hoggets to 38s Id. * - Spring Lambs.— Ninety were forward, and they sold from 26s 3d to Sheep.—There was an average yarding, including good consignments from Mid and South Canterbury, and one lot from South Otago. An improved sale resulted for light and shorn sheep, heavy woolly wethers being a shade slacker. Extra prime wethers made sis to 61s lOd, prune 47s 6d to 53s 6d, medium 43s 9d to 46s 6d; extra prime ewes 4os 4d to 48s 3d, prime ewes 40s bd to 445, medium ewes 37s 6d to 40sj prime shorn wethers 38s lOd to 41s, ordinary 83s Id to 37s lOd; prime hoggets 35s to 39s 4d. . , , ' Fat Cattle.—Three hundred and seventy were yarded, including two consignments from the North Island, half a dozen trucks from the West Coast, and a draft from Kaikoura. The market was irregular, but big beet was slightly easier than last week, whilst cows and heifers were better. Extra choice beef made up to 57s 6d per 1001 b, prime medium-weight 49s to 52s 6d, medium quality 45s to 48s_ per 1001 b. The outside beef was of medium quality. Extra prime heavy-weight steers brought £23 to £29, prime heavy steers £2l to £23 10s, medium-weight steers £l7 to £2o'los; extra prime heifers to £l9 2s 6d, prime £l3 to £l6 10s, ordinary £9 10s to £l2 15s; extra prime cows to £22 1/s 6d, prime £l2 15s to £ls 15s, ordinary £9 15s to £l2 10s. Vealers. —A strong sale, runners making to £8 17s 6d, and other classes being better by ss. Store Cattle.—There was a larger entrv and a spirited sale, graziers attending in much larger numbers. Three and four-year steers brought up to £lO, two-year to £7, 18-months’ steers and heifers £3 9s 6d, cows £3 to £4 10s. Dairy Cattle. —There was a fair demand, and best springers realised £6 10s to £lO 10s, medium £4 10s to £6, best springing heifers £6 to £lO, medium £3 to £5 10s. Fat Pigs.—A medium entry experienced an irregular sale. Choppers made £3 10s to £7, baconers £4 5s to, £6 (average price per lb B£d to 9d), porkers £2 10s to £3 15s (average price per lb 9d to 9£d). Store Pigs.—Easier prices were recorded. Weaners 20s to 30s, stores 32s to 55s 6d, sows in pig to £5 18s.

BURNSIDE. DUNEDIN, October 21. At the Burnside stock sale to-day fat cattle more than reached last week’s high prices. Sheep showed little change, though heavy-weight wethers were a shade easier. Steve cattle and pigs sold well. Fat Oattle—A yarding of 209, compared with 240 head last week. Thei quality ranged from fair to prime, with a number of good sorts of cows. The opening demand was fairly brisk, and the sale continued at prices that were somewhat higher than those of last week. Extra prime ox beef sold at from 65s to 67s 6d per 1001 b; medium quality 60s; prime heifers and cows 45s to 50s. Extra prime bullocks made from .£29 7s 6d to £3l ss; prime heavy bullocks £26 to £2B ss; lighter sorts £l7 to £l9 10s. Prime heifers sold at' from £ls to £22 7s, and cows from £l4 to £l9 2s 6d.

Fat Sheep—An entry of 1862 head, -compared with 1611 last week. They were generally a good lot, comprising heavy crossbred wethers with a sprinkling of from plain to prime wethers and -ewes. With but a few butchers in attondance there were some passings and the sale continued slightly easier for "inedium weights, with extra heavy sheep about Is cheaper, and easing further on the last race. Extra prime handy-weight wethers sold at up to 7jd per pound; prime extra heavy and medium quality wethers to 7d; prime ewes to 6d, and iight and aged ewes from 5d to sid. Extra prime heavy wethers made from 55s 6d to 575; prime heavy 47s 9d to 525; lighter sorts 40s to 465. Extra prime heavy ewes made from 44s to 45s 3d; prime 39s to 425; lighter from 375. Spring Lambs—There were ten good spring lambs and they were sold under keen competition, at prices ranging from 38s to 48s 6d, which was equal to Is 6d per lb. , Store Oattle. —About 100 were yarded, mostly medium sorts. A dozen medium, and two and _ a-lialf-year steers realised the good price of £9 19s per head. Other sort 9, particularly good conditioned cattle met with a good de- * mand.

Pigs.—There were 98 fats and _9B stores penned. Prices were still high, baconers selling at from 9d to 9£d and porkers from 9sd to 9£d per lb. CHICAGO WHEAT MARKET. NEW YORK, October 20. Chicago wheat quotations are:—December, new 146£ cents, old 145 J cents; May, new, 143| cents, old 142 cents per bushel. CO-OP. HORSE FAIR. A SUCCESSFUL SALE.

A very successful horse fair was conducted by the Farmers’ 'Co-op. yesterday. There was a large attendance, and bidding was brisk. The following are the prices:— Mare 9yrs £35, gelding 9yrs £35, do. £35, mare syrs £4B 10s, gelding 3yrs £4O 10s, do.’ 9yrs £44, do. 9yrs £4B, do. aged £25, do. 9yrs £3O 10s, mare aged. £26, do. 7yrs £4O, do.
