Final arrangements for the Gala to be held on Labour Day in aid of the funds of the Advance Ashburton Association were discussed at a meeting Oi the combined committees last evening. Mr H. R. C. McElrea presided over an attendance of 18. , Mr J. Henderson, reporting tor the Snorts Sub-Committee, .said the enLines were very good, totalling !290, il in the cash runuing, 101) in the cash cycling, and 51 and 70 in the corresponding amateur sections, including many prominent athletes from all parts ot Canterbury. The chairman said that the guessing competitions were not progressing too well, but it was hoped to see an improvement on tlie day of the c»aia. It was also reported that the work connected with the stalls, was well m hand. The local auctioneers who went to Addington that day intended to make the usual canvass at the saleSide Show and Refreshments Committees’ reports were both favourable, and Mr A, Prentice, who is arranging the Curiosity Museum, said he lelt confident that it would be the star show of the Gala. Mr W. Kerr stated that the surprise packets were about completed and there would he about 2800, m addition to special prizes. Messrs McElrea, Henderson, and R. C. McGregor were appointed a sports protest committee.
