DUNEDIN EXHIBITION
DISPLAY. A SEPARATE EXHIBIT.
The committee appointed to arrange for the representation of Ashburton County at the Dunedin Exhibition met in the Borough Council Chambers last evening. There were present:- The Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith), presiding, and Messrs W. B- Tho mas J Christian, W. G. Gallagher W. H. Ttohinson F. W. Seldon, and A. A. McDonald. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs C. Reid, W. T. Lill, and T. J. Hunter. i A letter was received from the secretary of the Canterbury Provincial Committee stating that it was anticipated that £IOO would be sufficient to enable the local committee to set up ltS ]V£eSrs >l W. H. Tisdall and Co. wrote regretting that they were unable to assist in the mounting of the committee’s stag’s head, but suggested communicating with Mr F. S. Steffan, of Oamaru. The Ashburton Acclimatisation bociety wrote informing the committee that it would endeavour to secure stag heads, stuffed fish, etc., as exhibits in the local bay. Mr F. W. Seldon reported that he had attended a conference at Christchtirch with the Canterbury Committee. At’ first the tendency was that Ashburton should lose its identity, but
a tentative agreement was reached by I which Ashburton was to have a separate hay. The cost could not be esti- ’ mated at present, but Canterbury would he fortunate if it got £3OO toward the cost of the provincial court. The- report was received. After discussion of details, it was 'decided to offer a prize of £lO for the best design for the local bay. I The secretary was instructed to ! write to the Exhibition I authorities 1 asking for full particulars as to the " dimensions and shape of the urea allotted to the Ashburton display.
