PRELIMINARY ARRANGEMENTS. COMMITTEE CONVENORS CHOSEN,

Arrangements for the Gala to be held on; Labour Day by the Advance Ashburton Association were considered at sa public meeting held in the Borough Council Chambers last evening, me Mayor (Mr R. Galbraith) presided over a good attendance. , The chairman referred to tfce excei lent work the Association had done since its' inauguration. McDonald disagreed with tthe suggestion. Many, p&ople might wish to come to Ashburton, but it was not fair to saddle them with the extra shilling. He suggested also that the Press be asked not to mention the matter, but nothing definite was done, in this direction. • Mr MeJiHrea was appointed organiser, Mr E. J. O'Brien secretary, and Mr J. S.
