COUNTY CENTRES.

(From Our Uwn Correspondents.) FAIRTON.

A euchre tournament was held recently at the Boarding House, which was kindly lent by Mr and Mrs Drake for the occasion. The attendance was very Mrs H. Padden and Mr D. Jamieson won the prizes. _ The consolation prizes went to Miss G. Dewart and Mr J. Oram. Mr Perkins, secretary of the School Committee', supervised. These tournaments are being run by the School Committee in aid of their' funds, and in addition to the prizes to be given for the season s aggregates, is a" prize offered to the lady and gentleman securing the highest aggregate for the evenings play. A successful entertainment was £iven bv Mr A. Todd's concert party from Ashburton. Mr J. Willis occupied the chair, and the following programme was carried cut:—Pianoforte solo, Mr D Smith ; song. Mr I. P. Mowat; monologue, Mr L. T. J. Ryan; song, Mrs Smith; ventriloquism, Mr Parsons; song, Mrs E. M. Gabites; character monologue, Mr A. Todd; pianoforte solo, Mr Oakley; character monologue, Mr L. T. J. Rvan; song, Mr *;.. £obll- - vocal duet, Mesdames Smith and Gabites; conjuring, Mr Parsons; stump speeches, Messrs Ryan and Todd;. song, Mr I. P. Mowat; song, Mrs Gabites, The accompanists were Messrs D. bimtii and Oakley. At the conclusion Mr J. Wallis thanked the party for their excellent programme, and Mr Todd suitI ably responded. The performers were afterwards entertained at supper, by Mesdames Perkin sand Marriott.
