ROAD BOARDS.
UPPER ASHBURTON. There were present at the monthly meeting of the Upper Ashburton Board yesterday afternoon, Messrs H. Morris (acting-chairman), T. J. Lemon, S. H. T.ill, R. J. Mulligan, and R. Houston.
There was reported to be at the bank a credit balance of £985 2s 3d. The amount of the accounts to be passed for payment was £249 9s. It was decided' to ask certain ratepayers to clean creeks running through their properties. The following transfers of propertywere approved:—From Thomas Eve to Crum Bros., pt. R.S. and lots 1 to 3, d.p. 469; from John McLauchlan to Mrs S. Baughan, pt. lot 160, d.p. 326. WAKANUI. The monthly meeting of the Wakanui Road Board was held yesterday aifternooni. Present: —Messrs F. Erampton (chairman), W. Anderson, L. Hanrahan, J. Watson, and A. Hight. The Education Board wrote inquiring as to the condition of certain roads leading to the Newlands School. The clerk was instructed to reply that the roads were quite safe for a wheel vehicle driven by either children or parents. The following transfers of property were approved, subject to the usual conditions:—W. Anderson to J. S'. Connolly, pt. 5 and pt. lot 7 and pt. R.S. 25108, etc., Chertsey, containing 1214 acres; W. Hams to ]>. H. Harrington, lots'-20, 1-4, and 1-7, Dromore, containing 10 acres; John Langdon to Andrew McNally, sections 9, 11, 13, 15, 17, 19 and 21, pt. of Res. 1261, Smithfield Road, containing" 7 acres; Roderick McDonald to T. E. Upton, lease pt. Res. 1772, containing Illacres.
Messrs Moore and Page, Seaview, waited on the board with a request for a larger culvert on. the road bounding their properties, it was explained that the present one was much too small to cope with the flow of water in time of floods, with the result that storm water overflowed on to their properties. It was resolved to make application to the County Council for concrete pipes to replace the present culvert. It was reported that the gorso nuisance was much in evidence on Hampton’s Road, and it was decided that unless some steps were ; taken by the landowners to have the roads cleared, the board would have to take action.
Accounts amounting to £74 17s 5d were passed for payment.
