THE WEATHER.

FROST AND SUNSHINE. A northerly breeze has blown to-day,, with the sky somewhat overcast with light clouds. Eight degrees of frost were registered this morning, and at 9 a.m. the barometer stood at 29.40 inches. The temperatures yesterday ranged between 31 and 42 degrees, and 16 points of rain fell before 9 a.m. today. A slight fall of snow was experienced between 1 a.m. and 2 a.m. to-day. The weather at Methven has turned cold and wintry once more (writes our correspondent) .There was a slight frost yesterday morning, but the sky clouded* over and -sleet commenced to fall. This was followed by a slight fall of snow. The rain and sleet has ceased, but the. sky is still overcast and conditions are bleak. The higher hills have once morebeen covered with snow.

SNOW ON PORT HILLS. CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Heavy rain and sleet showers fell throughout yesterday, and for the first time this year snow on the Port Hills reached down almost to the Military Sanatorium. Snow fell in the city throughout the afternoon, but it did' not lie long on account of the rain. DUNEDIN WHITE. DUNEDIN, July 24. Heavy rain and sleet showers fell at frequent intervals to-day, and the hfDft surrounding the city were coaled with snow.
