MAGISTRATE'S COURT.

TO-DAY'S SITTING. The weekly sitting of the Ashburton Magistrate's Court was held to-day> Mr E. D. Mosley, S.M., occupying the bench. Judgment by default was given for £2, costs 23s 6d, in the case L. Hopkins v. H. C. Boot (Temuka). For cycling on the footpath at Tinwald, James A. McClintock was fined 15s, costs 7s. Boarding the Ashburton-Christchurch express at Rakaia while it was in motion, cost William Forsyth Gibson, of Mt. Somers, £2, costs 7s. Arthur Watson, of Tinwald, was charged with obstructing a County employee, it being alleged that he refused to stop when requested to do so on the approach to the Ashburton traffic bridge while flood waters were over the road, which was closed to traffic on account of the floods. After hearing the evidence for the prosecution, his Worship adjourned the case for a week, to enable defendant to obtain witnesses.
