PERSONAL.

Mr W. E. Farquliarson, the new headmaster at the Springbum School, and Mrs Farquliarson, have taken up their residence in the district.

A bulletin has been issued stating that the Marquis Curzon spent a fair night. Though his condition is causing anxiety, his general strength is maintained. He had a fair amount of sleep.

Mr G. W. Leadley, who has repre* sented the Mid-Canterbury executive of the Farmers' Union on the Ashburton Chamber of Commerce, resigned the position yesterday. The executive passed a resolution thanking him- for his services. The appointment of a successor was held over.

The staff of the Ashburton Power Board gathered this morning to bid farewell to Mr R. E. Akers, who has been the Board's Inspector since it was constituted, and who leaves on Mondlay to take up a position in Christehurch. Mr J. Cow (Chairman of the Boaird), in presenting Mr Akers with a handsome travelling clock, spoke at length on the many good qualities of their guest. He had carried out his duties to the entire satisfaction of the Board and of the. consumers with whom he had come in contact. Mr H. G. Kemp (EngineerSecretary), and Mr G. Welsh, spoke on behalf of their respective departments. Mr Akers feelingly responded. Morning tea was dispensed before the staff dispersed.
