(Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHUiICH, Feb 25. Heavy yardings were again the rule tocday. Well over 40,000 sheep were penned, and the sale was a hard one. The top auction price for Poverty Bay two-tooth ewes was 44s 3d. Private sales were made at a shade more. Ut store sheep over 30,030 were forward, including good ewe lines from Poverty Bay. There was a sluggish sale in the forenoon with frequent passings, but there was an improvement later in the dav Good ewer, were slightly better than last week; lambs were about the same; but old ewes and wethers were decidedly easier, the former 4s to bs per head on the price of a month

Fat lambs—There was a small yarding of 3000 head. Prime went from 8E (13d a lb) to 42s (1W and overweights and seconds llfd to l^d. There was a very keen sale ot tat sheep and a heavy yarding—33 per cent more than usual. Exporters secured a good proportion at about 7 5 d toi prime wethers and 6*d for ewes. The competitors kept the market up, and there were no passings. Extra prime wethers 50s 3d, prime 40s to 4ds 6d, medium 36s 6d to 39s 6d, light 33s to 365. Extra prime ewes 42s Id, prune d4s to. 375. medium 31s to 33s 6d, light 27s 6d to 30s, aged 25s 6d to 275. Fat Cattle.—A very heavy yarding ot 535. There were frequent passings, there being a further easing on last week of 20s per head. Best beet made 35s 6d to 38s, medium 33s to 355, medium and cow beef 3ls to 32s 6d, and rough down to 20s per cwt. Extra prime heavy weight steers went to £lB, prime steers £l4 10s to £l6 10s, medium £l2 to £l4 ss, light £9 to £lllos, rough £5 10s to £8 10s. Extra prime heifers £ll 15s, prime £8 10s to £lO 10s, ordinary £0 to £8 ss. Extra prime cows £ll, prime £7 10s to £lO, ordinary £5 to £7, old £2 10s to £4 15s. Vealers.—A large entry of good stuff sold well at late rates. Runners £7, good vealers £3 10s to £5 10s, good calves £2 to £3 ss, small 15 to 30s. Dairy Cattle.—A moderate entry and good sorts were in demand. Best 2nd, 3rd, and 4th caivers, springing £8 to £l2, medium £5 to £7 10s, best springing heifers £5 to £B, medium £3 to £4 15s, old cows £2. Store Cattle.—A fairly large entry, mostly cows. The demand was poor and frequent passings were made, especially of steers and heifers. Fat Pigs—A good sized entry. The demand for porkers was weaker. Baconers were lirm at late rates. Choppers £2 10s to £4 10s, light baccmers £3 15s to £4, heavy £4 5s to £4 15s. Extra heavy £5. The average price per lb. was 6d to 7|d. Light porkers £2 8s to £2 14s, heavy £2 18s to £3 7s. The average price per lb was 7d to 7Jd. Store Pigs.'—A good entry, and weaners were in good demand. Other stores sold firmly at late rates. Smali weaners 20s to 245, good 28s to 31s, small stores 33s to, 425, medium 44s to 48s, large 565. Sows in pig £4 7s 6d to £5 7s.

BUNEBIN, Feb. 25

Fat cattle said at higher rates at Burnside to-day, and an increase of 15s a head far prime bullocks is quoted. Sheep and lambs shewed l little change. Store cattle had a slow sale, and pigs were somewhat firmer. Sheep—An entry of 2133 head. The yarding was-a fair one. There were some nice ewes, while the proportion of prime wethers was good. The usual buyers were operating. The sale opened fairly well oil prime sheep at about last'week's figures. The demand for freezing sheep was good, and ensured a steady sale, with generally some improvement towards the close. _ Extra prime heavv wethers made to 56s 6d. prime heavy 44s 3d to 495, lighter 37s to 38s 9d. Extra ,prime heavy ewes made to 56s 6d, prime heavy 44s 3d to 495, lighter 37s to 38s 9d. Extra prime heavy ewes sold at up to 3Ss. prime 34s to 30s, light and inferior 23s 6d to 265. , Lambs—The number forward was 910. The entry was of a very fair quality, though the number of unfinished was fairly large, a lot of halfbred lambs indifferently drafted being penned. There was a quiet opening at last sale s rare.-;. The demand was good for quality sorts, but slack for unfinished animals. Prime heavy made from 40s to 43s 9d, medium 34s to 36s 6d, unfinished 27s to Is. Backward graziers' sorts made from 23s 6d to 265. Fat Catcle—A yarding of 271 bead. The yarding included some cattle of poor'quality, though there was a fair proportion of good ones Prices for nrime bullocks were up about 15s early In the sale.
