GIRL INJURED. (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, August 8. A young girl named Meila Reichel was found in a clump of trees with two knife gashes in a leg. Her screams attracted a man near the scene and he found a young man named Clifford Odlin attempting to gash his own leg. Odlin, who does not appear to be in a sound state of mind, was arrested. The girl is not in danger.

MOTOR FATALITY. PALMERSTON N., August 8. Stanton Hill, near Pohangina, was the scene of a motor fatality this afternoon, when a car skidded, dropping over a bank thirty feet. Mrs 11. Lucas, wife of a farmer at Pohanrina. was instantly killed. She leaves ■*. grown-up son and daughter. Mrs Wells, the driver of the vehicle, and the only other occupant, was removed to hospital, .suffering from severe injuries to the head and chest.
